August is the month of the horse’s birthday, and this year it falls in the Chinese Year of the Horse.
But it is also the time every year when we see a spike in the number of acutely laminitic horses.

This pony mare is NOT having a stretch. She has chronic AND acute laminitis and is trying to take the weight off her toes.
Many people think that laminitis is a death sentence. That rotation of the pedal bone cannot be reversed. Or that fat, laminitic horses or ponies need to be starved to lose weight. This is not the case.
Many laminitic horses can make good recoveries if properly managed. Proper management requires an understanding of the illness.

In our detailed book on Laminitis, we outline some of the myths about the disease. But more importantly we describe the step-by-step actions you can take to rehab your laminitic horse or pony.
Here’s how you can go in the draw to win a copy of this book….
All you need to do is post a question about LAMINITIS that you would like us to answer, here in the comments section below this blog.

On Saturday August 9th, we will put the names of those who have submitted a question, in a hat and we’ll draw a winner who will receive their copy in the mail. We’ll also do our best to answer all the questions posted.
